Hung Yung
HUNG YUNG had a lot of friends. Everyday after school they played together until it was dark. Sometimes they ran around the field playing football. When it was windy they flew kites. If it was raining the boys sat under a tree and told stories. Everybody in the village said Hung Yung and his friends were like brothers. They were always together from morning until night. There was only one thing they could never do together. They could never go fishing together.
Hung Yung’s fear
When Hung Yung saw his friends digging out worms for fishing he became very sad. It was the same when they started to paint their boat. Poor Hung Yung became very quiet. He really wanted to go with them but he never could. He was frightened of water. Nobody knew why Hung Yung was frightened of water. Of course he was not afraid of soap and water. He bathed and washed just like the other boys. But he was afraid when he went to the river.
Hung Yung tried and tried not to be afraid. His friends told him they would help him. Once they even carried him into the boat. The same thing always happened. He ran home to his mother crying and shouting like a baby. At first Hung Yung’s friends did not understand him. In the end they saw he really was very frightened. But Hung Yung did not want to be selfish and stop the others from enjoying themselves.
When he knew they were going fishing, he smiled at them and said goodbye. Then he sat down under a tree and read quietly until they came back. He knew his friends would always bring him a big fish. He loved to eat fish then they would make a fire and cook the fish. His friends never tried to make a fire and make Hung Yung go near the river again.

Jessy and Moses are playing golf. On the 5th hole, a shot over water to an island green, Moses hits his 6-iron and it lands perfectly on the green, Jesus takes out his 7-iron and begin tee-ing it up.
Moses says: “The 7 isn’t enough club. It’ll go in the water”
Jessy replies: “If Tiger Woods can do it, I can do it.”
He swings the 7-iron and sure enough, straight in the drink. He tees up a second ball and grabs his 7-iron again. Again Moses reminds him of his previous attempt and Jessy says, “If Tiger Woods can do it, I can do it,” “PLOP” in the water, it goes again. He continues this until he has hit all his golf balls into the water. At this point, he begins walking out on the water looking down to locate his lost golf balls. The foursome behind them approaches the tee, spot Jessy out on the lake and says to Moses, “Hey, who does that guy think he is, Jesus Christ?”
Moses replies, “No, Tiger Woods”

When my wife and I showed up at a very popular restaurant, it was crowed. My wife went up to the hostess (who was blonde) and asked, “Will it be long?” The hostess, ignoring her, kept on writing in her book. My wife again asked “How much of a wait?” The blonde looked up, “About ten minutes.” A short time later, the blonde got on the loudspeaker, and announced “Willette B. Long, Your table is ready.”

Goh Ann
Life was never easy for young Goh Ann. He was the youngest of ten children. Once the family was very rich. That was before Goh Ann was born. His father had a big vegetable farm. He was a good man and worked hard all day long. He wanted the best for his children. He wanted them to have a better life than him. They all went to very good shools. Every birthday they had lots of expensive toys to play with. On Saturdays the family went to a nice restaurant. It was a good life and everybody said what a happy family they were. The father never taught his children how to grow vegetables.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “Leave the hard work to me. My sons will never have to get their hands dirty.” Then one day his father became ill and could not work any more. By the time Goh Ann was born, his father was dead. Goh Ann did not know anything about the good times. He could only remember the family being poor.
It was not so easy for his brothers and sisters. For them life changed very fast. Suddenly there were no more chocolates and good meals in restaurants. They just did not know what to do they were not lazy. They just did not know how to work. Their mother could not help. Before she always had many servants to help her. She also did not really know how to work hard.
Slowly the family became poorer and poorer. One by one the children stopped going to school. Their mother did not have money to pay the fees any more. It was very sad. They were all very good students.
Goh Ann starts work
Goh Ann never went to school. When he was five years old he started work. He worked at a vegetable stall. He did not grow vegetables. He working to sell them. He was the smallest boy working in the market. He stood on a box to see over the top of the stall.
Some of the women who came to the market laughed at him. They thought it was very funny. “Look at that small boy. His family was rich once. Now he has to sell vegetables.”
Goh Ann did not listen to them. He worked very hard. The man he worked for knew he was a good boy. There was just one problem. When Goh Ann tried to help, something always went wrong. This made the man angry. The man shouted at Goh Ann and told him to go away. The next day he always asked Goh Ann to came back. He knew that Goh Ann was really a good boy, but things always happened to him.
One day Goh Ann was working at the stall alone. He did not usually work alone. A very rich woman came to the stall. She bought a lot of things. Goh Ann had to put the things in her basket. Soon her basket was full. Then the lady said, “Thar’s enough thank you.” Goh Ann was pleased about this. It was hard work carrying heavy vegetables. He counted how much money the vegetables cost. It took a long time. There were such a lot of vegetables. Poor Goh Ann never went to school. He could not count very quickly. The rich lady started to get angry, “Hurry up, you stupid boy!” she shouted. “I have got some people coming to dinner tonight. Goh Ann smiled politely and told the lady he was sorry. “That will be sixty dollars, please,” he said.
She took the money out of her purse and paid him. She did not take the vegetables. “Bring them round to my house this afternoon,” she shouted. “Don’t be late!”
Goh Ann looked very sad. He knew he could not go home after work. He had to ride a heavy old bicycle to the lady’s house. It was not easy work for a small boy.
“Come on! Hurry up! We are waiting!” Goh Ann looked up suddenly. There were a lot of people standing there. They were a lot of people standing there. They all wanted vegetables. He quickly put the money into his pocket and started to sell vegetables to them.
A goat eats the money
Goh Ann was very busy. There were a lot of people waiting. He forgot all about the money. At first the money was in the bottom of his pocket. Then, as he got more and more money, it was almost falling out of his pocket.
At the next was aman who bought and sold animals. That day he had a lot of goats to sell. Goats are very hungry animals. They like to eat anything. One of them moved neared and nearer to Goh Ann. I could see something green in his pocket. It looked nice. Then it slowly started to eat money. At first Goh Ann did not know what was happening. He was much too busy. Then he felt something pushing his leg. When he looked down, it was already too late! The goat was eating the last of the money. Goh Ann was very sad. He thought “What shall I do? My boss will be really angry when he gets back. He will think I took the money.” That afternoon, Goh Ann put the rich lady’s vegetables into a basket. Then he tied it to the back of his bicycle. He was not really thinking as he rode off. He was afraid about what his boss would say. It was a long way to the rich lady’s house. Goh Ann soon got very tired riding in the hot sun. He did not see that some of the tomatoes were already falling onto the road. The road had a lot of holes. Every time the bicycle went into a hole, some vegetables fell out. Soon the basket was almost empty.
The rich lady is angry
When Goh Ann arrived at the woman’s house, it was getting dark.
“There you are,” she said. “Where have you been? I have been waiting since two o’clock.” The rich lady was really angry.
One again Goh Ann said he was very sorry. Then he went to the back of the bicycle to get the vegetables. When he looked down he got a big surprise. The basket was empty.
The lady came running out and hit him.
“You’re stupid boy! Look what you done,” She said. “Tomorrow I am going to the market. I will tell your boss everything. You will never work in the market again.”
The next day Goh Ann went to work early. He wanted to talk to his boss before the rich lady arrived. When he got there it was too late. The lady was already talking to his boss.
“There he is!” she shouted, pointing at Goh Ann. “Send him away or I will never buy anything at your stall again.”
Goh Ann’s boss could not do anything. The rich lady was his best customer. He was also angry about the goat eating the money. If he did not send Goh Ann home, the rich lady would never come back again. He knew that she would tell all her friends too.
“Go away!” the boss shouted. “I don’t want to see you here again!”
This time Goh Ann knew he could never come back. He was crying as he walked home. He did not know what to do. He knew the family would not have enough to eat. He stayed at home for a week.
One morning he saw one of his sisters crying because she was hungry. He could not listen any more. He went back to the market and spoke to his boss. He told him everything.
The bosss was a king man. He really liked Goh Ann. He thought Goh Ann was a very good boy for trying to help his family. In the end he said Goh Ann could work at the stall again. Goh Ann was so happy. He did not know how to thank his boss enough. That night he ran home as fast as he could. He wanted to tell his brothers and sisters the good news. They were very happy too. They had enough to eat again. Rice and vegetables were better than nothing.
For the next week Goh Ann did his work very well. He did not make any mistakes. The boss was very happy. He did not shout at him even once. It was too good to be true. Then the rich woman walked into the market. When she saw Goh Ann she was very angry. She shouted at his boss. It was the loudest voice Goh Ann had ever heard.
“You will never see me or my friends again,” she shouted.
The rich lady sees her mistake
The lady turned round and quickly walked away. She was so angry she did not see her purse fall onto the floor. The boss smiled. He put his arm around little Goh Ann. “Never mind,” he said. “We do not need customers like her. We have already got her money.”
Goh Ann was not listening. He ran out from behind the stall and picked up the purse. Then he ran after the lady. He called out to her but she would not listen. She thought he wanted to say sorry. To her Goh Ann shouted as loud as he could. “You forgot your purse!”
The lady turned around. She saw Goh ann running after her. She felt so ashamed. The little boy only wanted to give back her purse. It had a lot of money inside but he did not keep it. She said sorry over and over again. Then she took Goh Ann to the best fruit stall in the market. She bought him a bag of big red apples.
Apples for everyone
Goh Ann said, “Thank you very much.” Then he put the bag of apples under his arm.
The lady was very surprised. “Aren’t you going to eat one?” She asked.
Goh Ann told the lady, “I am not very hungry. I will eat them this evening.” Then he said goodbye to the lady and began to walk home.
When he arrived home, Goh Ann sat down. He told his brothers and sisters everything that happened. Then one of them asked, “Why didn’t you eat the apples?”
He looked at them and smiled. “I have never tasted apples before, “he said. “I know you all liked them very much. I am sure you will enjoy them much more than I. I am happy to eat vegetables and rice.” Then Goh Ann stood up and said god night to them all. It was late and he was very tired.
After he went to bed his brothers and sisters did not eat the apples for a long time. They just sat and looked at them. They knew they were lucky to have such a kind and generous brother.
